Pollinating your Pumpkins
Some people have had problems their pumpkins not developing. The female flower is the one with the little pumpkin at the bottom of flower. The male flower is the one with the long skinny stem. If you pick the the male flower and open it up so you can see the staymen (the centre part of the flower) them rub this over the female staymen. This will then pollinate the flower and your pumpkin should start tot grow. Normally bees would do this but they sometimes get busy pollinating other flowers and miss the pumpkins.

Tahunanui School's Giant Pumpkin Blog
Hi & welcome to the Giant Pumpkin Competition Blog,
Thanks for joining us as we watch our amazing pumpkins grow and develop over the next few months until they will be ready for weighing at our School Gala in April 2011. I for one can't wait to see how big or ugly some of these pumpkins will grow.
Many children, families and staff are well on the way with their pumpkin growing. The plants are flourishing with the early summer heat and regular waterings. I saw one the other day at the Green's that is just doing fabuously well. Photo to come soon.
